DREAMING OF BETTER INDIA

It is said that "never judge a book by its cover", here media plays the role of "cover" and the "book is referred to as our own nation "INDIA". We generally encounter that media highlights the negative points. In his speech in Hyderabad, the former president of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam highlighted the need for us to recognize our own strength and  achievements.
Ours is a great nation, we are one among the worlds leading countries. We are the first in milk production, number one in remote sensing satellites, second largest producer of wheat and rice. In spite of these millions of such achievements, one only sees the half filled up glass.India is bothered by many hollow threats like death, sickness, terrorism, crime, e.t.c and here an individual thinks that government solely is responsible for this.
Ours is a government which is by the people, of the people and for the people. We go to the polls choose a government and after that forget the responsibilities. Every tenth person here is lazy and irresponsible. we expect the government to clean up, but we ourselves do not bother to pick up  a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. In order to eradicate the evils from our country, we have to first clean our inner selves. We need to have a conscious mind.
We call ourselves as responsible citizens and we alone are responsible for converting this beautiful mother nature into a pile of garbage. We respect and follow the system in other countries but cannot in our own. If one can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot he be the same here in India?
When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along and work miracles for us with a magic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away to another. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf, when the Gulf is war stuck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse the country but nobody thinks of feeding the system. our conscious is mortgaged to money.
So, in order to have a better tomorrow or to make a better India, we first have to change ourselves and then we along with the government have to walk hand in hand for the development of our country, because self respect comes with self reliance.
